English woman Gabby Scanlon headed to Oscar’s Wine Bar and Bistro in Lancaster on her 18th birthday and although it’s pretty standard for people to get fucked up on their 18th, Scanlon unintentionally went to the next level.

The pub served Gabby a free drink called a ‘Nitro-Jagermeister’ and after downing the drink, Ms Scanlon said she felt “an explosion” and “agonising pain” as her stomach expanded with gas. Ms Scanlon was rushed to hospital where they discovered that liquid nitrogen, which was in the drink, had killed her internal tissue and the lining of her stomach had been perforated. Her stomach and small bowel were removed to save her life.

The court hearing saw Oscar’s Wine Bar and Bistro being fined £100,000 ($A217,048) and £40,000 ($A86,808) in costs, after the owners pleaded guilty to one count of failing in the duty of an employer to ensure the safety of persons not in its employment.

Be careful of liquid nitrogen drinks, kids.
